I found this book a cosy read. One of those books where the
characters are brought to life by their very weaknesses and we the reader are
able to relate to at least one of them. A group of women are brought together by
the kind intention of Eleanor; a strong, childless woman who’s working life has
come to a close. She feels to her dismay, loneliness un-encountered before and
invites two single mothers into her home on a Friday evening. There begins a
regular meet to which several others women are drawn in. The writer embraces
these women weaving their lives together and, ultimately apart. Her purpose of
sharing with us each of her characters inner thoughts, hopes and fears is eloquently
achieved. Not in the least a fast-paced, heady ride but a sublimely comfortable
one nonetheless.
